Work out which balls you can afford to drop and which you can't

When we consider the priorities and commitments in our life, we can see them as balls that are in the air that we are juggling to keep from dropping to the floor.

Some things are obviously glass balls and if we 'drop the ball' on these things they'll smash - bad things will happen.
Some things are plastic balls that we end up taking on when perhaps we shouldn't have.

Glass ball examples
  • Role at work
  • Parenting
  • Health
  • Caring for family member
Plastic ball examples
  • School PTFA
  • Learning to play piano
  • Organising a games night
  • Running a book club

These examples are just that - examples. Se need to work out what we're juggling. Which are glass? Which are plastic? Which are plastic but pretending to be glass?

Juggling Balls Exercise

This exercise is to work out which balls you can afford to drop, and which balls you can't

WHAT PARTS OF YOUR (LIFE/BUSINESS/RESPONSIBILITIES) DO YOU JUGGLE?

EG. Parenting, Work, home life. Cycling club, School parent committee, relationships, working out etc. (No right or wrong answers)

WHEN THINKING OF EACH PART OF YOUR LIFE, IF YOU DROPPED THE BALL COMPLETELY AND IT HIT THE FLOOR, WOULD IT SMASH INTO PIECES/FALL APART OR WOULD IT LAND SAFELY, PRACTICALLY UNSCATHED?

WHAT BALLS CAN YOU SAFELY DROP? WHICH BALLS ARE MADE OF PLASTIC AND WILL LAND SAFELY WITHOUT BREAKING?

WHAT BALLS NEED TO BE KEPT IN THE AIR? WHICH THINGS IN YOUR LIFE REPRESENT THE GLASS BALLS, THAT WILL SHATTER IF YOU DROP THEM?

Which glass balls may actually be plastic balls masquerading as glass ones?

IE. Can you stop/adjust/give away/change that particular juggle?
